US Urges Apple And Google To Remove TikTok Video Service From Their Stores
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) spokesman Brendan Carr called on Apple and Google to remove the TikTok video service from their App Store and Google Play app stores.
The official published a copy of the letter to the heads of corporations on his Twitter on June 29.
Carr explained his call by the fact that the Chinese social network is secretly collecting user data and sending it to the parent company ByteDance.
“TikTok is not what it seems at first glance. It’s not just an app for sharing funny videos or memes. It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. At its core, TikTok works as a sophisticated surveillance tool that collects a lot of personal and sensitive data,” Carr says.
The letter also says that if Apple and Google do not remove the application, they will have to report their decision by July 8. In response, the IT giants will have to explain why they consider it acceptable to secretly collect data on US citizens and send them to Beijing.
