Microsoft Ends Support For Internet Explorer
Microsoft will end support for its Internet Explorer 11 Internet browser, the latest major version of Internet Explorer, effective June 15, 2022. At the same time, this measure will not affect some versions of the Windows operating system – in particular, the browser will remain working for the version of Windows 10 LTSC. The decision to end mainstream support was made by the IT giant on May 19th.
Microsoft explained its decision regarding Internet Explorer by its “obsolescence” – the main functions of the browser were transferred to Microsoft Edge launched in 2015, which in particular provides support for outdated and modern websites and applications. “Because Microsoft Edge is able to take over this and other features, Internet Explorer 11 will be retired and support will end on June 15, 2022,” the IT company said at the time.
In terms of further guidance for customers, specifically Internet Explorer users, Microsoft is advising to use the older browser through the backwards compatibility mode built into Microsoft Edge. This feature will be supported until at least 2029. The company at the same time assures that a year before the termination of support for this option, it will send users a notification about this.
