Tuvalu Reaches Out To The Metaverse To Save Its Vanishing Heritage

The Pacific island nation of Tuvalu is exploring ways to maintain its recognition as a nation even if it loses all of its land due to rising sea levels.

“We are actually imagining a worst case scenario where we are forced to move and our land is flooded,” Tuvalu Foreign Minister Simon Coffee told Reuters.

It is estimated that up to 40% of the country’s metropolitan area is underwater at high tide, and the entire country is predicted to be underwater by the end of the century. The country consists of nine islands in the Pacific region with a population of about 11,000 people. Over the past 28 years, the sea level has risen by an average of 0.5 cm per year, which covers its land area.

As Tuvalu is built into the Metaverse, it will become the first digitized nation in the Metaverse. Coffee said a country’s land, ocean and culture are its most valuable assets, and no matter what happens in the physical world, they will be safe in the cloud.
