“Dune: Awaking” Science Universe Survival MMO Announced
Announced during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, the “ambitious” survival MMO in the Dune universe is on the way. Dune: Awakening is the latest game from Conan Exiles developer Funcom that “draws inspiration from both the Frank Herbert novels and Denis Villeneuve’s Oscar-winning film while exploring exciting new possibilities for the franchise.” The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The action takes place on the desert planet Arrakis from the science fiction universe of Frank Herbert. “Thousands” of players should share the desert world, the developers promise on the game’s Steam page.
At the opening of Gamescom, Funcom only released a short render trailer for Dune Awakens, which hardly allows us to draw any conclusions about the actual gameplay. Among other things, you can see a sandworm that you might be able to ride.
According to Funcom, the goal of the game is primarily survival: you have to maintain a fixed suit and build shelters from sandstorms. In addition to the dunes, players also get the ruins and wreckage of spaceships. You can collect spices that unlock new skills. Factions should also be part of the game.
There is no release date yet, and gameplay scenes have yet to be released. The game will be released on PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.
