VanMoof Introduces New S4 and X4 E-Bike Models
Dutch bike manufacturer VanMoof has unveiled two new e-bike models, the S4 and X4. The company is trying to deliver its premium features and build quality at a lower price, and the new models will set customers back $2,498, $1,000 less than the top S5 and X5 models.
According to VanMoof co-founders Taco and Thies Carlier, the S4 and X4 are designed to solve the problems that VanMoof e-bikes have become too complex.
Easier, more affordable and more reliable: “We spend a lot of time listening to our potential drivers. And what we heard clearly,” says Thies Carlier, “is the desire for our key features and legendary VanMoof design—in an e-bike that is even simpler, more affordable, and more reliable. We built the S4 and X4 specifically for their needs, using iconic VanMoof technology and design, but with a much simpler user interface.”
The design hasn’t changed much, but there are a few notable differences. The team has ditched the halo lighting ring and USB-C charging port for the SX4, and the frame itself is closer, both in appearance and height, to the old SX3 e-bikes. Perhaps the biggest change has been the expansion of the color palette, with the SX4 coming in Evergreen, Sunbeam Yellow, Purple Fog and Foam Green – far from the monochromatic colors of the previous models and showing different flavors compared to the latest Cowboy e-bikes.
