Valve Introduced A New Version Of Steam Deck With An OLED Screen
Valve has unveiled an updated version of the Steam Deck portable console with a larger OLED screen. This is reported on the company’s website.
The updated Steam Deck OLED console differs from the original one, which now bears the name Steam Deck LCD, with an OLED display increased from 7 to 7.4 inches with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, HDR support and a refresh rate of 90 Hz.
The Steam Deck OLED is powered by a 6nm AMD processor with four Zen 2 cores supporting eight virtual threads. It operates in the same frequency range from 2.4 to 3.5 GHz. The dynamic TDP of the processor has also not changed and ranges from 4 to 15 W. The chip also contains eight RDNA 2 graphics cores with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. They provide performance of 1.6 Tflops. The original set-top box uses exactly the same chip, but based on a 7-nm process technology.
Valve has also updated the wireless capabilities of the Steam Deck OLED. The console supports tri-band Wi-Fi 6E (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz 2 x 2 MIMO), as well as Bluetooth 5.3. The original version of the set-top box supports dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), as well as Bluetooth 5.0. Like the original model, the Steam Deck OLED is equipped with a slot for SD, SDXC and SDHC memory cards. The equipment includes a 3.5 mm audio output, as well as a Type-C connector with support for 8K@60 Hz or 4K@120 Hz image output and USB 3.2 Gen2.
The Steam Deck OLED console received 16 GB of faster LPDDR5-6400 memory. The original version is equipped with 16 GB of LPDDR5-5500 memory. The updated model also offers 512 GB or 1 TB of permanent memory. Steam Deck OLED will not be available in versions with 64 and 256 GB of storage.
Steam Deck OLED received a more capacious 50 Wh battery. By adding a more energy-efficient OLED screen and a 6nm process technology, the result is increased battery life.
Prices have been reduced for standard consoles with a 7-inch IPS display. The 64 GB version will cost $349, and the 256 GB version will cost $399. The option with 512 GB of permanent memory will cost $499.
