Sony Introduced Slim Version Of The PlayStation 5
Sony has introduced a new generation of the PlayStation 5 gaming console, which is a modernized version of the original console.
The new product is actually the previous version of Slim, but with a redesigned design.
The volume of the new PS5 is reduced by more than 30% and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition models, respectively. The dimensions of the new PS5 are 358 × 216 × 96 mm, while the previous version had 390 × 260 × 104 mm. In turn, the new PS5 Digital Edition measures 358 × 216 × 80 mm, while its predecessor measured 390 × 260 × 92 mm.
The console now has four separate panels, with the top having a glossy finish while the bottom remains matte.
The company will release a removable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for PS5, which will be sold separately for $79.99 or €119.99. Along with the disk drive, the user will receive the corresponding side panel for the console, so that after the upgrade, externally it will not differ from the regular PS5.
It uses an AMD processor with eight Zen 2 cores (16 threads, up to 3.5 GHz) and RDNA 2 graphics with 36 execution units, as well as 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM shared between the CPU and GPU. The main difference in terms of characteristics is the solid-state drive of the new product, increased to 1 TB. Previously, PS5 was equipped with only 825 GB SSD.
Sales of the new Sony PlayStation 5 will begin in the United States in November, and the console will appear in other markets later. The console will cost from $500 for the basic version and from $450 for the Digital Edition, and an external drive is priced at $80.
