Tesla Cybertruck Began To Become Covered With Rusty Spots
In early February 2024, early Tesla Cybertruck owners in the United States began reporting in droves that their new electric pickup trucks, made from ultra-hard cold-rolled stainless steel, quickly developed small spots of rust under normal operating conditions in warm climates. It turned out that this happens even after a little rain.
As it turns out, stainless steel is also susceptible to corrosion, according to posts on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum. “I just picked up my Cybertruck today. The consultant specifically mentioned that in the rain, orange rust marks appear on it, and this [removing them] requires polishing the car,” said one of the forum participants.
“After the rain in Los Angeles, I noticed that there was some corrosion on the metal, so I decided to start documenting it to bring it to Tesla’s attention,” another user wrote. The puzzled owner said that the company where he picked up the car did not even have equipment for removing stains. “They documented the corrosion and said they would call me next month when the tools arrived and they could do the maintenance and repairs,” he said.
Tesla clarified that over time, the appearance of the Cybertruck body may change due to operating conditions and due to the characteristics of the materials, but this is normal. The manufacturer advises to constantly monitor the condition of the body. Tesla will not under warranty replace Cybertruck parts that become unusable due to damage from external factors such as dirt or road salt.
