Apple releases iOS 16.3 With Security Keys For Apple ID

Apple has improved the security of iOS with the release of software update version 16.3. For the first time, iOS users can use physical security keys for two-factor authentication (2FA) of their Apple ID. Physical key support should help prevent phishing scams that can trick a user into giving an attacker access via 2FA.

There’s a new “Unity” wallpaper, as well as support for the 2nd generation HomePod speaker.

Apple has slightly changed the way emergency calls are triggered so that they are less likely to trigger accidentally. “Emergency Call – SOS” is still activated by pressing the side button at the same time as one of the volume buttons, but the call will not start until you release the buttons.

The update also contains many bug fixes.  Apple has fixed an issue that could cause flickering horizontal bars to appear on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. We also fixed a bug that could cause the lock screen widget to incorrectly display the status of the Home app. The update also fixed Siri bugs related to music queries and CarPlay. Below is a complete postscript to the update from Apple.
