AI Assistant Copilot Is Coming To Windows 10
A new accompanying document posted on the company’s website reveals that the AI-based Copilot assistant, which became part of the Windows 11 operating system this year, will also be available to Windows 10 users. Microsoft clarifies that this new tool will come first for members of the Windows Insider program, and then will be available to all Windows 10 users.
The Windows 10 22H2 Enterprise and Education platform variants won’t get Copilot yet, but the company has updated documentation for administrators wondering how the AI service will be managed on their organization’s computers when it does arrive. Copilot will not appear for all insiders yet – Microsoft will roll out the function gradually, using the CFR (Controlled Feature Rollout) mechanism. The AI-powered assistant is still more reminiscent of Bing Chat in the Edge browser, rather than a fully integrated tool in the OS in the form in which it appeared for Windows 11. But both Windows 10 itself and Copilot are designated as preliminary versions, so the release of the general public option, the chatbot will likely look different and gain additional capabilities.
Microsoft’s decision to bring Copilot to Windows 10 makes sense given the operating system’s popularity, which is more than double that of Windows 11.
