Apple Unveils Watch Series 12 & Watch Ultra 4 Smartwatches

Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 smartwatches, featuring a new sensor for tracking physical metrics.
Although the design of the new models remains unchanged, an improved heart rate sensor has become the centerpiece of the new health monitoring system. The system now measures heart rate every five seconds—60 times more frequently than in previous models.
Apple has also introduced heart rate variability (HRV) measurements every five minutes. According to the company, this system features the most accurate heart rate sensor among wearable devices. Additionally, Apple has unveiled a new “Readiness” feature that analyzes data on activity, vital signs, and sleep quality.
The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 feature a new “Audio Intelligence” function. It includes sound recognition—such as detecting a doorbell—and a “live rewind” feature that lets you go back 15 seconds to decipher what the person you were speaking with said. This function is activated by double-pressing the Digital Crown (an action previously assigned to multitasking).
Another new feature is the Siri Recaps function. When activated, it can generate summaries—such as meeting recaps—based on audio notes. A new “Siri Modular” watch face has also been added to the system.
The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are powered by the new Apple S11 chip. It incorporates CPU and GPU components, as well as a Neural Engine, based on the A20 Pro chip architecture.
The new Apple Watch Series 12 will be available with an aluminum case in black, light gold, and bronze, as well as in a “space gray” variant. Ceramic models have also made a comeback. They are available in pearl white and a new dark blue. A gold-toned version has been added to the Hermès line.
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 features an enlarged battery that provides over two days of battery life. Two finishes are available: black and natural titanium. A new titanium bracelet has also been introduced for the model.
Pre-orders have already begun, and the first shipments to customers will start on September 18. Prices for the entry-level model start at $399, while the advanced Ultra 4 version will cost at least $799.
