Apple AirPods 5 Announced

Apple’s major autumn presentation is underway in Cupertino. Following the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the AirPods 5 were unveiled. The earbuds are once again available in two versions, but this time, both feature ANC. Now, all current AirPods models support active noise cancellation.

According to Apple, AirPods 5 block up to 50% more external noise than the AirPods 4 model with Active Noise Cancellation, thanks to a new multi-port acoustic architecture and improved audio processing algorithms; they also feature an enhanced Transparency mode that delivers more natural-sounding voices and ambient sounds.

The updated acoustic architecture and improved Adaptive EQ provide richer, more detailed sound for an even wider range of ear shapes.

Both AirPods 5 models support “Adaptive Audio” (which dynamically adjusts Transparency mode and ANC based on environmental conditions) and “Conversation Awareness” (which lowers playback volume when the user starts speaking). They also support real-time translation when paired with a compatible iPhone running Apple Intelligence.

The higher-end model offers up to five hours of listening time with noise cancellation enabled (or up to 22 hours including charging via the case); the case itself supports charging via USB-C, as well as through Apple Watch chargers and the Qi standard.

The base version of the AirPods 5 is priced at $129. The advanced version of the AirPods 5 is priced at $149.

Both models will go on sale on September 18, alongside the new iPhones.
