Apple announced AirPods Max 2 headphones with improved active noise cancellation and improved sound quality. The headphones are equipped with the H2 chip, which powers a host of new features, including real-time translation using a neural network. AirPods Max 2 also feature conversation recognition, prioritizing the owner’s voice, and reducing background noise during phone calls.

The major upgrade was the headphones’ transition to the H2 chip. This enabled support for smart features, such as adaptive audio, which automatically adjusts noise cancellation, transparency, and volume based on your surroundings. Real-time speech translation into English was also added.

Apple claims to have improved noise cancellation by 1.5 times, and the sound in transparency mode is now “more natural.” When connected via wire, the headphones are capable of playing high-dynamic-range audio at 24-bit/48 kHz. The company emphasizes that this requires the included USB-C cable.

AirPods Max 2 are made of metal and weigh 386 grams. The signature leather case weighs an additional 134 grams. With noise cancellation enabled, the earbuds last up to 20 hours on a single charge.
