Apple To Release The First Waterproof iPad This Year

Apple will release a new iPad mini this fall, and it is expected to be the company’s first tablet with a waterproof design. Last year, media outlets reported that Apple was working on a waterproof design for future iPads, making the tablet safe to use in wet environments, such as a bathtub or poolside.
Current iPad models are not officially water-resistant. The manufacturer does not recommend using them near a pool or in a bathtub. The updated iPad mini will solve this problem for users who need a tablet for reading or viewing content in high-moisture conditions.
Instead of traditional speaker holes, the company will use a vibration acoustic system. Sound will be generated by vibration of the flat case panels. This solution eliminates the main route for water and dust to enter the device. On the iPhone, the manufacturer uses a different method: sealing the holes with special adhesives and gaskets.
The exact level of protection hasn’t yet been revealed. For comparison, the iPhone meets the IP68 standard (protection against immersion in up to 6 meters for 30 minutes). The iPad mini will likely receive a similar or similar rating.
Water resistance will allow the tablet to be used in scenarios where dedicated e-readers were previously the preferred choice. Devices like the Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Libra Color have long been water-resistant. Now the iPad mini will be able to compete with them in the poolside e-reader segment.
