TikTok Is Going To Fight Against The Ban In The US In Court
The US House of Representatives’ adoption of a bill to ban the TikTok app in the United States unless China’s ByteDance sells its stake violates the free speech rights of 170 million users, TikTok said in a statement.
“Once the law is signed, we will challenge it in court,” Michael Beckerman, TikTok’s head of public policy for the Americas, said in a note to TikTok US employees. – We will continue to fight. This is the beginning, not the end, of this long process.”
The US House of Representatives previously passed a bill requiring Chinese ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to sell its stake in the video service within nine months. The sale period can be extended up to a year. Otherwise, TikTok will be blocked in the US, which is the video service’s most profitable market outside of China. TikTok has more than 170 million users in the US.
Former US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who now heads the private investment company Liberty Strategic Capital, previously announced his readiness to buy TikTok by gathering a consortium of investors. According to WSJ, if the deal goes through, it will be valued at no less than $100 billion. TikTok’s revenue in the US in 2023 was about $20 billion.
