Tesla To Build New $3.5 Billion Nevada Plant To Produce Semi
Tesla plans to expand production at the Gigafactory, a manufacturing complex located near Reno, Nevada.
The automaker announced that it will invest $3.6 billion to build two new plants and hire 3,000 additional workers.
The head of Nevada said that the facility will be built in northern Nevada. Tesla also confirmed the existence of the project. The company said it has already spent $6.2 billion in Nevada and hired 11,000 employees and created 17,000 jobs in the construction of a gigafactory.
The plant launched in the state produced 7.3 billion battery cells (37 GWh+ per year), 1.5 million batteries, 3.6 million drives and 1 million power modules (14 GWh+ in total). These figures exceed Tesla’s plan for 2014, in which the company expected to spend $ 3.5 billion on an enterprise to produce 35 GWh of batteries per year.
With the 4680 cells, Tesla aims to achieve its goal of halving the cost of batteries and increasing battery production by nearly 100 times by 2030.
