Sony Testing PS5 Beta With Dolby Atmos Support And SSD Up To 8TB

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the release of a new beta update for the PlayStation 5 console.

To implement Dolby Atmos, proprietary 3D Audio technology is used – it will work with compatible devices. Applications with media content will also support surround sound. The new item will appear in the audio output settings, along with Linear PCM, Dolby Audio and DTS. SSDs up to 4TB are currently supported, and the upgrade will double the storage capacity. The required SSD speed for PS5 is 5500 MB/s or faster. Of the less significant changes – you can turn off the sound when you turn the console on and off, its volume can be changed. The DualSense controller will complement menu navigation with tactile feedback. The second gamepad can be made additional – it will duplicate the main one.

Users invited to test the firmware in a number of regions can already try out many new features, including enhanced accessibility options, as well as support for audio devices with Dolby Atmos sound technology. Later “this year” all innovations will become available to regular PS5 owners, but the exact release date for the final version of the update has not yet been announced.
