8BitDo Releases Nintendo-Style Mechanical Keyboard

8BitDo, a company specializing in the production of gamepads and gaming accessories, has released a new retro mechanical keyboard. Its design is inspired by the iconic NES and Famicom consoles from the Nintendo line of the 1980s.

The manufacturer offers to purchase a pair of large Super Buttons separately for the keyboard, repeating the shape of the buttons on the NES console controllers. The operation of the buttons can be programmed to your liking. They use Gateron Green mechanical switches. The buttons are connected to the keyboard via a 3.5mm jack. Up to three sets of two buttons can be connected to the keyboard. The cost of each set is $19.99.

The Retro Mechanical Keyboard itself lacks the right numeric keypad. It is based on Kailh Box White V2 mechanical switches that support quick replacement. The novelty is equipped with a convenient volume control located in the upper left part, next to the mode selector of the keyboard itself. The latter supports operation via Bluetooth and a 2.4 GHz radio channel via a USB transmitter.  ЭIn addition, the novelty can be connected to a PC using a USB cable.

In wireless mode, the Retro Mechanical Keyboard will last up to 200 hours on a single charge. It is equipped with 2000 mAh batteries. The full charge process takes four hours. The novelty does not have RGB backlighting.

The 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard will go on sale in September for $100, while the “super buttons” will have to be purchased separately for $20.
