Samsung To Release The Equivalent Of Dolby Atmos This Year
Back in November, the Korean company Samsung announced the development of IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Formats) spatial audio technology in partnership with Google. Today it became known that this technology will be used in the company’s products this year and will be able to compete with Dolby Atmos.
Support for the IAMF audio format will appear later this year in Samsung products, including TVs and soundbars. It will become available on existing products with a firmware update, and new models will support it from the start. Unlike Dolby Atmos spatial audio technology, which involves royalties from all compatible devices, the IAMF format is open and does not involve any payments to Samsung. The Korean manufacturer, however, has not yet specified which of its existing models will receive IAMF support.
In 2024, IAMF-enabled content should be released on Youtube, but only in the application, because browsers generally only support stereo output.
