Nothing Phone (1) Is Introduced: A Mid-Range Smartphone With An Active Indication On The Case

As expected, today was the online presentation of the first smartphone of the young company Nothing, founded by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. The Nothing Phone (1) has a number of unique features and an unusual design.

Nothing, founded by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has unveiled its first smartphone, the Phone (1). Like the Nothing earbuds, the novelty features a transparent panel design, and now this is not the only feature.

There are light strips on the back panel (this is what the company called the glyph interface).  They are designed to display notifications. For example, a light bar on the back next to the USB-C port can show how charged the battery is while charging, and the center indicator lights up when using wireless charging (direct or reverse).

All bars can flash when receiving notifications or incoming calls, and they can also be synchronized with ringtones. The strips can also act as fill light when shooting, and an additional red LED on the back flashes when the phone is recording video.

The case provides protection against dust and moisture according to the IP53 standard.  The fingerprint scanner is located under the display.

The Nothing Phone 1 features a 6.55-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1200nit peak brightness. The device is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus processor, 8 or 12 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 128 or 256 GB.

The device runs Nothing OS based on Android. The manufacturer promises 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security updates.

The new Nothing Phone 1 smartphone will go on sale in more than 40 markets, including the UK, Japan, India and continental Europe. The 8/128 GB configuration is £399 (about $475), 8/256 GB is £449 (about $535), 12/256 GB is £499 (about $593).
