Spotify Acquires Heardle Music Quiz
Spotify announced the purchase of Hurdle, although it did not say how much the acquisition cost. Heardle will remain free and Spotify has no plans to make any fundamental changes to the game, but players will now be able to listen to the full song on Spotify at the end of the game if they wish.
Heardle asks the players to guess the song played in six tries, based on the opening notes of the melody. Once the answer is revealed, it will be linked to the song on Spotify (formerly SoundCloud). With millions of players, it also became a hit like Wordle. The hope of acquiring Heardle is that players will use the game to discover new music and listen to it on Spotify.
“We’re always looking for innovative and playful ways to expand your music search experience and help artists find new fans. Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to introduce millions of fans to the songs they know and love as well as new songs, as well as a way to compete with your friends to see who has the best musical knowledge.” said Jeremy Ehrlich, Global Head of Music, Spotify.
According to The Verge, Spotify integration is starting in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Spotify plans to integrate in other countries later. We don’t have exact dates for when this integration will be available to everyone. Also, there are no details on how much Spotify paid for Heardle.
