Musk Bans Twitter Employees From Working Remotely
New owner of Twitter Inc. American businessman Elon Musk sent an email to his employees for the first time, in which he noted that the company “has hard times ahead” and forbade working remotely unless he personally approved it.
He said the new rules requiring employees to be in the office for at least 40 hours a week take effect immediately. As Bloomberg notes, this was another sign of Musk’s dissatisfaction with the prevailing work culture on Twitter.
Previously, the company allowed staff to work remotely from anywhere. Many employees were transferred to this mode of work at the beginning of the pandemic more than two years ago. At the same time, Twitter introduced a monthly day off for the entire company. Musk, after buying the company, canceled this additional “day of rest,” the agency recalls.
The ability to continue working remotely was one of the main themes raised in Musk’s first meeting with Twitter staff immediately after the deal was announced. Then the billionaire warned that he was against remote work.
