Microsoft Could Show off AI-powered Versions of Word and Outlook this March
Microsoft is preparing to demonstrate how its new ChatGPT-based AI will change Office applications. After announcing and showing off the “Prometheus Model” on the new Bing search engine earlier this week, Microsoft is ready to show how it will expand to mainstream productivity apps like Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans told The Verge that the company is preparing in the coming weeks to detail its plans to integrate the OpenAI speech AI model (ChatGPT) and its “Prometheus model”. Tech giant Microsoft is tentatively planning to make an announcement in March, highlighting how quickly the company wants to reimagine search and its productivity apps with investments in OpenAI.
The Information previously reported that GPT models have been tested in Outlook to improve search results, along with features for suggesting replies to emails and integrating Word documents to improve user writing. A week ago, Microsoft announced a new generative AI in Microsoft Viva Sales. It uses the Azure OpenAI Service and GPT to generate sales emails and is similar to some of the features that Microsoft is testing in Outlook.
Inside the company, a number of Microsoft executives are confident they are well ahead of Google thanks to the AI added to Bing and the upcoming integration into productivity apps.
