Hydrow Wave – The Rowing Machine That’s Making Waves

Rowing is lauded by many as a highly effective form of low-intensity cardio and strength training. The Wave is Hydrow’s second rowing model, released about two months after Peloton announced it would enter the rowing market. It’s thinner, sleeker and costs a thousand dollars less than the original Hydrow rowing machine at $2495. According to Hydrow CEO Bruce Smith, this is because the machine is designed to remove two major barriers to indoor rowing: price and space.

The original Hydrow is 86 inches long, 25 inches wide, and 47 inches high. It also weighs 145 pounds and features a 22-inch HD screen. This is basically the size of a three seater sofa. The Wave, meanwhile, is slightly smaller at 80 inches long, 19 inches wide, and 43 inches high.  It’s also slightly lighter (102 pounds) and has a smaller 16-inch touchscreen. Like the original, it supports paddlers up to 375 pounds and features a patented drag mechanism that supposedly mimics the feel of water without making much noise. Wave’s smaller size means it can be shipped directly to customers via UPS, eliminating the need for scheduled deliveries.

The Wave is more manageable in tight spaces than its predecessor or the traditional treadmill. The thinner design also gives the illusion of being smaller than it actually is and more aesthetically pleasing.
