First Look At System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition
Ahead of the highly anticipated System Shock remake due out later this month, Nightdive Studios has shared the first footage of System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition. A release date has yet to be set for the game, but those who pre-order System Shock will receive a free copy of the remaster upon release by publisher Prime Matter.
According to Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick, the remaster was conceived to reverse engineer the original System Shock 2 code to the KEX engine and make it available on next-generation consoles for the first time.
As part of the initiative, Nightdive also enlisted the support of the Systemshock.org fan community to integrate the best mods and unofficial patches into the Enhanced Edition: “All cutscenes, textures, character and weapon models have been updated.“
The Nightdive artists kept the character silhouettes intact, adding extra polygons to them to smooth out some of the sharp edges, and redrawn all the textures using the original materials.
While the graphics are the most obvious improvement, Kik cites seamless co-op as the main feature of the Enhanced Edition, which will make it easier to connect with other players and offer a more consistent experience.
