Darth Vader From Star Wars Will Be Voiced By Artificial Intelligence
Actor James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader in Star Wars, has retired. His voice samples are now owned by Lucasfilm, and further work will be done using artificial intelligence.
After 45 years of voicing Darth Vader, Jones told Lucasfilm that he was “considering getting rid of the character.” Skywalker Sound’s chief sound engineer Matthew Wood suggested that the actor bring in Respeecher. The company uses artificial intelligence technology and archival recordings to clone the voices of stars who have lost the ability to speak or have died.
With the consent of the actor, the film studio commissioned the startup to make Vader sound like “45-year-old Dark Side Force villain” Jones. An AI voice was used in the 2022 Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries. Because of this, the antagonist speaks like in the older films, as opposed to the actual sound of Jones’s speech in Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. Sunrise” 2019.
The actor oversaw the work of filmmakers and was pleased with the result.
Respeecher previously helped Lucasfilms voice a younger version of Luke Skywalker in the television series The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
