Bigscreen Launches ‘World’s Smallest VR Headset’
Los Angeles-based Bigscreen has announced an interesting product that is currently billed as “the world’s smallest virtual reality headset.” The VR headset weighs just over 115 grams, a feather compared to most similar devices on the market, such as the HTC VIVE XR Elite, PlayStation VR2, Magic Leap 2 and Meta Quest Pro. And for virtual reality glasses, weight is paramount.
The headset is equipped with a pair of OLED displays with a total resolution of 5120 × 2560 pixels. SteamVR tracking technology is used to determine the user’s position. The manufacturer promises personalized adaptation to the parameters of the user’s face based on 3D face scanning using an iPhone application.
The price is pretty reasonable by today’s standards at $999. Pre-orders are available today, with deliveries to customers in the US starting in the third quarter, to customers in Canada and Europe in the fourth, and then to Japan, Australia and New Zealand. This slow, staged rollout is partly due to a bottleneck in the headset setup process after the 3D pre-scan.
