Arrested Development Will Stay On Netflix
Arrested Development is back on Netflix thanks to a new deal. The cult Fox series chronicling the farcical exploits of the selfish Bluth family originally ran for three seasons from 2003 to 2006 before being canceled due to low viewership. Over the years, the show’s fan base has continued to grow, leading to Netflix co-producing two seasons of the reboot in 2013 and 2018, even though their original streaming deal only lasted 10 years, leading to the recent announcement that the entire series will leave the platform on March 15.
The new deal will give Netflix exclusive streaming rights to the sitcom. As a result, the first three seasons of the show will not be available to watch on Hulu later this year. Interestingly, the deal reportedly gives Disney the option to sell the rights to the linear series for all five seasons of Arrested Development. This means the show could end up on network TV, as BoJack Horseman did in 2018. Losing Arrested Development would be a heavy blow to Netflix.
