Amazon Is Working On A Film And Series Based On The Tomb Raider Video Game Franchise
Amazon is working on a film adaptation of the Tomb Raider franchise, The Hollywood Reporter claims that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will write the series, while Deadline adds that the studio is also working on a film.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) will serve as writer and executive producer on the show, but she’s unlikely to take on any of the characters.
The series and movie could be a bigger movie franchise than the God of War adaptation that was announced in December. However, Amazon will release the next Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics.
Most likely, Amazon got the film rights after MGM decided to cancel the Tomb Raider sequel starring Alicia Vikander. It is also reported that the corporation will publish the next game in the series, on which Crystal Dynamics will again work.
The cast and premiere date of the new Tomb Rider show are still unknown. Amazon has not yet commented on the information.
