A New Version Of The Two-Legged Digit Robot
Agility Robotics has shown an updated Digits robot with an improved design and appearance. The new Digits robot looks different from the previous version in that it now has arms and a head with glowing LED eyes. As for applied changes, there are many more.
Agility Robotics first introduced the Digit headless robot in 2020, positioning it to be useful in a wide range of industries such as logistics, industrial inspection and telepresence. The bot is also designed to work in the same area and occupies the same space as a human, so it is 1.75 meters tall and walks on two legs.
Adding a head and eyes is not just a “cosmetic” procedure. A company spokesperson told reporters that the sensory head will allow people to better understand Digit’s actions, as its eyes will show important information, such as the intention to change direction or engage in a particular activity. In addition, the design of the hands has changed, which will now be easier to handle plastic containers, often used in warehouses.
Digits robots will be officially presented at the ProMat Chicago exhibition, which runs from March 20 to 23. Prices have not yet been announced. Partners will receive the first devices in 2024, and mass production and sale for everyone will begin by 2025.
