Microsoft Unveils Project Zenith – Powerful Windows Systems

Microsoft unveiled Project Zenith, a special Windows configuration for powerful computers designed for software developers. These PCs will feature impressive technical specifications, a wide range of productivity tools, and a tailored Windows experience.
The key hardware requirement for this configuration is a minimum of 64 GB of shared memory, setting the bar for the specialized and premium segment of devices.
The first computer officially unveiled under the program was a compact mini-PC based on Ryzen AI Halo processors, which AMD demonstrated directly at IFA. In the coming months, the lineup is expected to expand to include systems based on chips from other manufacturers. The primary focus of these devices is on fully capable local processing of complex neural networks without a constant connection to remote servers.
Logan Ayer, vice president of Windows platform and developer tools at Microsoft, emphasized that Project Zenith devices come pre-configured with Windows for development and a set of tools that specialists primarily use. He explained that on these devices, developers can run local models with over 30 billion parameters without restrictions, accelerating experimentation and helping reduce dependence on paid cloud tokens.
The modified system comes with a robust set of preinstalled applications. Right out of the box, users receive the Visual Studio Code environment, GitHub Copilot assistant, the PowerToys system utilities suite, and the WinAppCLI and Windows Dev Skills packages. The PowerToys Command Palette is enabled by default, allowing for quick search and execution of key system commands directly from the keyboard.
The most interesting changes are the fundamental behavior of the operating system interface itself. Redmond engineers reconfigured File Explorer, enabling the display of file extensions, the showing of hidden files, and the permanent display of the full path in the title bar. Furthermore, the operating system now natively supports long paths and completely eliminates the intrusive lists of recently opened files and folders.
Special attention is paid to the security of AI agents. Microsoft mentions Microsoft Execution Containers, operating system-level identity verification, and enterprise management tools. These mechanisms will be available out of the box on Project Zenith devices.
