American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has announced a forced recall of 14,575 Model Y crossovers in the US market. The widespread service campaign was triggered by a technical malfunction at the factory, which resulted in the vehicles lacking the required certification label with technical weight specifications.
The certification sticker is typically located on the inside or side pillar of the driver’s side door and contains information about the vehicle’s maximum load capacity, as well as recommended tire pressure and production date. Most drivers are unlikely to notice its presence, but it is crucial for monitoring the maximum load capacity and setting the correct tire pressure.
Tesla estimates that approximately 45 percent of recalled Model Y vehicles are missing this sticker. The recall report also notes that Tesla has already corrected the automated scanning tool that allowed vehicles to be shipped without the sticker, and factory workers have also begun manually checking for its presence.
As a reminder, Tesla has discontinued production of its renowned flagship electric vehicles, the Model S and Model X. The last units of these iconic models, which embodied the brand’s premium segment for 14 years, rolled off the California assembly line on May 10, 2026. Elon Musk’s corporation made this strategic decision to fully free up resources and capacity for the mass development of Optimus humanoid robots and the accelerated improvement of autonomous driving systems and driverless robotaxis.
