Sony Introduces PlayStation 5 Pro for $700
Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, which will be the flagship of the entire line of Sony consoles and will be available for purchase in stores from November 7 this year. Externally, the PS5 Pro resembles the PS5 Slim, with the only difference being three black ribs on the side walls.
Externally, the PS5 Pro looks like the current version of the PS5 (aka PS5 Slim) – it has a similar design with separated side edges, but at the same time it is not equipped with a disc drive – the latter can be purchased separately. The main changes occurred inside: the PS5 Pro GPU contains 67% more computing units than the current PS5 console, and the data exchange speed with memory has increased by 28%. The increase in GPU performance will allow developers, according to Sony, “to use ray tracing at speeds that are two and sometimes three times faster than the current PS5 console.”
The new product received an eight-core AMD Zen 2 processor with 16 threads and a frequency of 3.5 GHz, which can operate at a speed of up to 3.85 GHz. The graphics processor is built on the RDNA 3 architecture and has a performance of 33.5 Tflops – previously there was RDNA 2 and only 10.3 Tflops. The GDDR6 RAM remained in the same volume of 16 GB, but its speed increased to 18 Gbit / s (the regular model – 14 Gbit / s). The SSD capacity has doubled to 2 TB.
Sales of the updated gaming console will begin on November 7. The console will cost $700 in the US and 800 euros in Europe. The disc drive will be sold separately.
