Nikon Zf: An Advanced Camera In Retro Design
Nikon has finally announced a new full-frame mirrorless camera – the Nikon Zf. The camera has a retro-design magnesium alloy body, but with a glossy surface, and engraved symbols on the mechanical dials for shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation.
Although the Zf looks visually very similar to the older Nikon FM2 or FE2 film cameras, the new camera’s image processing is powered by an Expeed 7 processor, the same one found in higher-end models such as the Z8 and Z9. The Zf has built-in five-axis image stabilization and autofocus with support for 3D tracking.
It supports 10-bit 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second, as well as continuous burst shooting at up to 30 frames per second. But what sets the Zf apart most from the Z8 and Z9 is its vintage look, with dedicated switches for monochrome mode and a mechanical shutter that makes a corresponding sound when in use.
The manufacturer clarifies that this is the first Nikon camera to support video recording in automatic mode with shutter priority, thus allowing the operator to select the shutter speed, while the camera adjusts the aperture and ISO. There is internal 10-bit H.265 recording.
The Nikon Zf is the first Z-series camera to support Touch Fn for adjusting camera settings when viewing through the viewfinder. The user can now move the focus point using the LCD screen while looking through the viewfinder.
The new Nikon Zf will be available in mid-October 2023 at a price of $1,999.95 for the body, and complete with the Nikkor Z 40mm F/2.0 SE lens, the camera will cost $2,239.95.
