Canon Introduced The EOS R50: The Cheapest RF Mount Camera For $680
Canon has officially unveiled two new cameras that will go on sale later this year. Along with the full-frame EOS R8, the manufacturer announced the EOS R50, the cheapest RF mount camera available, starting at $680. Judging by the price and characteristics, the novelty can be an interesting choice for beginners.
The R50 has an OLED viewfinder with a resolution of 2.36 million dots and a magnification of 0.96x. The LCD screen is a 1.62 million dot color TFT liquid crystal display with touch control capability.
The R50 does not have a fully mechanical shutter. Instead, the camera is equipped with an electronic front curtain shutter and an electronic shutter. The R50 also lacks built-in image stabilization, so it will depend on optics with optical image stabilization to reduce judder.
The camera is equipped with a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, inherits the advanced object detection technology used in the Canon R6 Mark II and the new Canon R8, and uses the newer DIGIC X processor. New AI-based object recognition gives the R50 impressive autofocus capabilities.
The Canon EOS R50 will go on sale later this year for $680. The Content Creator Kit, which includes, in addition to the camera itself, a microphone, an RF-S 18-45mm lens and a tripod, will cost $800.
