Apple Is Testing The “Apple GPT” Chatbot And Developing Tools For Creating Generative AI
In recent reports from Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman, it became known that Apple is actively working on creating a framework for generative artificial intelligence (GI) and has already created its own chat bot similar to ChatGPT.
Citing anonymous sources, Gurman reports that the key technology for the development of AI performed by Apple is a platform code-named Ajax. It is designed to create large language models, similar to those that serve as the basis for the ChatGPT chat bot. Using Ajax, a small team of Apple engineers developed a chatbot that was ostensibly called the Apple GPT internally. The Ajax platform itself was reportedly developed in 2022 to “bring together Apple’s machine learning developments.” The chatbot, in turn, is a later development of the end of last year and is a kind of experiment. The Ajax framework itself is built on the basis of the Google Jax framework and runs on Google Cloud, the columnist notes.
According to Gurman’s sources, the Apple Maps app, Search, and Siri have already received some AI enhancements developed using the Ajax platform. However, they are not available to consumers and are undergoing closed testing.
Currently, the Apple Chatbot is web-only and is being tested by a small team of engineers with the highest level of access. It is noted that in the test mode, the chatbot is used for prototyping new products, summarizing information, and can also answer questions based on the data on which it was trained. The company has banned the use of any output received from the chatbot for work with consumers.
