AMD Introduces X870/X870E Chipsets

In addition to the Ryzen AI 300 mobile processors and the Ryzen 9000 desktop processors, AMD tonight introduced new chipsets for the latter.

AMD has provided only a few details about the new X870E and X870 chipsets. In particular, all motherboards with these chipsets will support the USB4 interface – AMD has made this a standard. Also, motherboards with the new logic will have support for Wi-Fi 7 (instead of Wi-Fi 6E for boards based on 600 series chipsets). The presence of at least one PCIe 5.0 slot for NVMe drives will also be required. If an earlier Gigabyte leak is to be believed, motherboards powered by the new chipsets will also offer support for faster AMD EXPO RAM overclocking profiles with speeds of up to 8000 MT/s.

AMD is also talking about EXPO overclocking profiles with support for memory up to DDR5-8000. And the logic sets differ only in the larger number of ports that the X870E supports, since it consists of two chips.
