The First Public Beta Of macOS 14 Sonoma Is Out
A new operating system for “apple” computers has started. macOS 14 Sonoma, whose release date is scheduled for fall 2023, already offers a number of interesting features and capabilities.
macOS Sonoma hasn’t changed much at all since last year’s macOS Ventura: there are improvements, but hardly anyone will notice them.
- Widget support. Apple went for broke and in 2023 added them to both tablets and Macs. In fact, this is the same as in iOS 17, but if they look harmonious on the iPhone, then on the Mac they don’t. Although it’s up to you;
- Updated dynamic screensavers with smooth animation, as well as new background wallpapers.
- Presenter Overlay is a feature that allows you to broadcast a presentation behind you during a video call. It will work not only in FaceTime, but also in Zoom and other third-party applications.
- Profiles for tabs – in order to separate different pages, as well as the ability to add bookmarks to the Dock.
- Support for web applications as in iOS 16 with push notifications.
- The ability to share passwords in iCloud Link with other users by adding them in advance.
- Lock private windows in Safari and access them with a passcode or Touch ID.
- New co-editing features for PDFs with data autocomplete support.
- A special game mode for Mac – we talked about it in our article.
- Anti-tamper lock mode, which was introduced back in iOS 16. And yes, this is a very useful feature that can come in handy for everyone in light of recent events.
Some Mac models from 2017 are not listed as compatible with Sonoma. Information about which Macs will receive macOS 14 Sonoma can be seen in the table above. Support applies to devices five and even six years old. But not all new features will work on older computers. Some will require only Apple chips, not Intel.
