Nothing announced the final software update for the Nothing Phone 1, the original device that debuted in 2022.

The company made the announcement nearly four years after the release of the Nothing Phone (1), which launched on July 1, 2022. The smartphone debuted with Android 12 and featured design elements that would define all Nothing smartphones, including the Glyph interface and transparent touchpad. With the release of the final July update for the Nothing Phone (1), the company ended its software support commitment: three years of major Android updates and four years of security updates.

The final major update for the Nothing Phone (1) was Android 15, although some users may have already figured out how to upgrade to Android 16. In the announcement, the company reflected on the importance of the Phone (1), noting that it was the beginning of Nothing OS and served as the foundation for the software the company continues to develop today.

While software support is ending, Nothing notes that the Phone (1) “remains incredibly easy to use” and remains an important part of the company’s history. While installing the update, your smartphone may become hot or consume more battery power than usual. The manufacturer warns that this is normal, and that the device will return to normal after installing the update.

If you own a Phone 1, you’re unique. Nothing details the device’s accomplishments, noting that it debuted with Android 12, and the latest OS update brought it to Android 15. The Phone 1 not only marked our introduction to Nothing, but also introduced us to “ideas surrounding a cleaner, more thoughtful smartphone user interface, from the Glyph interface and matrix design to a more focused approach to Android.”
