Xiaomi CEO Lu Weibing announced that the Redmi Note series has reached 500 million sales worldwide. It was also announced that the new Redmi Note 17 will be unveiled in July.
The Redmi Note 1 smartphone was released in 2014. Since then, the company has sold 500 million units of this series—an average of over 41 million smartphones per year for over a decade. This is a surprisingly stable result in a market that is rapidly transforming. The Redmi Note series remains relevant thanks to high-quality displays, capacious batteries, and competitive prices, without trying to be more than it already is.
The Chinese manufacturer has decided to skip the 16 series and immediately follow the Redmi Note 15 with the Redmi Note 17. This brings the series numbering in line with the flagship lineup—the current Xiaomi 17. This decision is more of a streamlining process than a significant product overhaul.
The company hasn’t yet released any details about the Redmi Note 17, but unofficial sources indicate that the series will include at least three models.
Lu Weibing emphasized that Redmi intends to maintain a high level of equipment in the mid-price segment.
