Microsoft Closes Deal To Acquire Activision Blizzard
On October 13, Microsoft announced the completion of its purchase of Activision Blizzard. Now the corporation owns all internal studios and publisher IP, including the rights to Call of Duty and Candy Crush.
The transaction value was $68.7 billion – this is the largest acquisition in the history of the gaming industry. Redmond residents announced their desire to buy Activision Blizzard back in January 2022, but the process itself dragged on for a long 20 months due to numerous checks by antitrust regulators.
In a fresh message, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer thanked players for their support and promised to continue to listen to community feedback in order to delight with new projects for different platforms.
Once the deal closes, Activision Blizzard games will begin rolling out to Game Pass. Recent releases like Diablo IV won’t be included until 2024 at the earliest. But journalists do not rule out the imminent addition of old “titles”.
