Apple Launches Development of Smart Doorbell with Face ID
Apple has launched the development of a smart doorbell that can automatically unlock the door by recognizing the face of the owner of the premises. The advanced system with the Face ID function can be integrated with Apple HomeKit, a platform for managing smart home devices.
The doorbell will be wireless. It will connect to a compatible deadbolt lock, allowing users to automatically unlock the door using Face ID. According to the journalist, the doorbell will likely work with third-party HomeKit locks, but Apple may also partner with other brands to offer a universal solution. Apple’s doorbell will compete with Amazon’s Ring line, but Gurman did not say whether Apple’s gadget will shoot video.
Apple already offers a range of third-party HomeKit-enabled locks on its website, but a smart doorbell with Face ID will take facial recognition technology to a whole new level.
