Jaguar Created Electric Car With A Long Hood

Premium automaker Jaguar unveiled its first new model in New York since its controversial rebranding two years ago. Actress and new brand ambassador Florence Pugh attended the spectacular presentation. With this move, the brand is seeking to win over a younger, affluent, and predominantly American audience.

Built on the JEA platform, this electric four-seat coupe features a long (5,235 mm) and low-slung (1,403 mm) body with an elongated hood—proportions dictated primarily by design rather than functionality, given the absence of an internal combustion engine and the vehicle’s purely electric powertrain. Despite this, the front overhang is relatively modest; the sculpted lines of the front fenders are broken up by a brass trim piece positioned between the wheel and the front door, as well as large access flaps concealing the charging ports on both sides.

The sloping roofline, featuring a mid-sized panoramic glass insert, omits a rear window on the liftgate; instead, a small rectangular display positioned at the base of the windshield—in the center of the dashboard—shows the feed from the rearview camera. The body structure is composed of 73% aluminum, and the doors feature a frameless design. Jaguar takes particular pride in the model’s drag coefficient, which does not exceed 0.23—a record low for the group’s lineup. In addition to the aerodynamic silhouette, this figure is achieved through active front grille shutters and a retractable rear spoiler that can be set to three different positions.

The symmetrical cabin layout, when viewed from above, is defined by a continuous center console running from the dashboard to the rear seatbacks. This design dictates a four-seat configuration while also housing various storage compartments and cupholders within the console itself. A massage function—including a “hot stone” mode—is available exclusively to front-row passengers. The vehicle offers practical cargo-carrying capabilities, as the rear seatbacks fold down to expand cargo volume from 450 to 1,000 liters.

The powertrain utilizes an 850-volt architecture, with a 118 kWh battery providing a range of up to 720 km (WLTP cycle). Using a 350 kW charging station, the vehicle can gain 321 km of range in just 13 minutes; however, charging the battery from 10% to 80% takes 22 minutes. Propulsion is provided by three electric motors, with two mounted on the rear axle. Together, they deliver a peak output of 1,030 hp and 1,365 Nm of torque, making the Type 01 the brand’s most powerful model. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and takes no more than 4 seconds to go from 100 to 180 km/h. Top speed figures have not been disclosed.

The Jaguar Type 01’s electronic assistance systems rely on the Nvidia platform. In addition to 10 external cameras, the system incorporates five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The front radar features a heating system designed to prevent icing during long-distance drives in snowy conditions. According to Jaguar representatives, the 50:50 weight distribution ensures excellent handling.

The base version will cost around €167,470 in Europe, while custom configurations and upgrades could push the price to approximately €185,470.

Orders are set to open in early 2027, with the first deliveries in Europe expected in the second half of 2027.
