Anthropic Surprise Release Of Claude Opus 5

Anthropic officially unveiled Claude Opus 5, a new version of its powerful line of AI models. The release comes approximately two months after the release of Claude Opus 4.8, keeping pace with the company’s recent model update schedule.
The new version significantly outperforms its predecessor in performing complex programming tasks, although the flagship Fable 5 model remains the optimal choice for long-term projects involving AI agents. The new model also demonstrated increased resilience to restriction circumvention attempts and complies with regulatory requirements. Company spokesperson Danielle Ghiglieri confirmed that the product had undergone independent testing prior to its public launch. “We continue to collaborate with our government partners to conduct our own independent testing of our models. This includes Opus 5,” she said.
The cost of processing a million tokens remains the same as its predecessor: $5 per deposit and $25 per withdrawal, which is roughly half the price of Claude Opus 5 and slightly lower than the cost of the new OpenA GPT-5.6 model. Additionally, users now have access to an experimental “Fast Mode,” which increases the model’s speed at double the cost. Anthropic has also added the ability to automatically switch to a lower-level model if Claude Opus 5’s security mechanisms reject a user request.
The release of Claude Opus 5 demonstrates Anthropic’s commitment to continually improving its models amid fierce competition in the generative AI market.
