Jeep Unveils Recon – Electric SUV

The Jeep brand, owned by auto giant Stellantis, unveiled a prototype of an adventure SUV, dubbed the Recon, back in September 2022. At the time, the company immediately announced that it would be exclusively electric, as the model was conceived as a “green” alternative to the current body-on-frame Wrangler. Since then, many automakers, including Stellantis, have become disillusioned with the potential of electric vehicles in the global auto market. However, the Jeep Recon SUV, which debuted today, has not changed its promised “green” design.
The Recon Moab features two electric motors, producing a combined 650 horsepower and 840 Nm of torque. Its 100-kilowatt battery gives the SUV a range of approximately 450 kilometers, and it can be recharged from 5 to 80 percent in 28 minutes. Each electric motor has its own gearbox, and the rear axle features a locking differential. Additionally, the driving electronics feature five modes for different conditions, including an off-road cruise control mode. The independent suspension components are reinforced, and the underbody is protected by metal plates.

The only dimensions of the Recon that have been released so far are its maximum trunk capacity (1,866 liters) and its wheelbase, which measures 2,870 millimeters. This puts the electric vehicle behind the five-door Wrangler, as well as its geometric characteristics: the approach and departure angles are stated at 34 and 34.5 degrees. The Recon can wade through water deeper than 600 millimetres, thanks to its standard 33-inch tyres and 237 millimetres of ground clearance.

The rear seats fold flat, allowing for up to 1,866 liters of cargo space. Since the front hood lacks the usual internal combustion engine, there’s also room for a small 85-liter storage compartment. In the US, the vehicle will be priced from $65,000 excluding delivery; the Jeep Recon will be assembled in Mexico. Following its launch in the US and Canada, the model will begin to expand to other regions of the world.
