Twitter Is Testing Vertical Scrolling Video
Twitter announces on its official blog that it will begin rolling out a new way to watch videos on TikTok. No, Twitter is not going to promote TikTok-style short videos in the same way that IG does with Reels or YouTube does with Shorts. Instead, only one short video element will be used, making it easier to find video content on the platform.
“We want everyone to be able to easily use our service in a way that best suits their needs, and videos are an important part of that.”
Twitter is introducing a new “Immersive Media Viewer” that will play videos in a new full-screen mode. This will be accessible by simply clicking/expanding the video from the tweet. Users will be able to swipe up from any video if they want to discover more visual content. Exiting the view will return you to your Twitter feed.
Twitter will also show more videos in the app’s Explore tab. Users will see the new video carousel along with the tweets of interest in the Videos for You section.
Immersive Media Viewer will be launched for iOS users using Twitter in English within the next few days.
