The Largest iPhone Maker To Start Producing Mitsubishi Electric Cars

Taiwanese contract electronics maker Foxconn, the world’s largest iPhone assembler, has made a mark in the auto industry with a deal to build electric vehicles for Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors.

Taiwan’s Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer and iPhone assembler for US-based Apple, has been diversifying its business lines in recent years, expanding its presence in areas such as artificial intelligence servers and electric vehicles.

Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a subsidiary of Foxconn, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi Motors to develop and supply an electric vehicle for sale in Australia and New Zealand, the companies said.

The new electric car will be manufactured in Taiwan by Yulon Motor, which also makes Nissan cars.

It is not yet known whether Mitsubishi will borrow other models from Foxtron, but this possibility is being discussed.
