NASA Needs Partnership To Decarbonize The Next Generation Of Planes
The US space agency NASA is looking for partners to develop a new generation of low-emission narrow-body airliners.
NASA intends to fund the design, construction, testing and flight of a large-scale demonstrator with a well-designed airframe configuration, as well as the development of related technologies. The agency’s project aims to reduce aviation carbon emissions and ensure US competitiveness in the aircraft industry, the report said.
NASA is specifically targeting technologies for narrow-body (single-pass) aircraft, which account for almost half of the world’s aviation emissions.
“With this ambitious new project, together with American industry, we will usher in a new era of cutting-edge innovation that will make the global aviation industry cleaner, quieter and more sustainable,” said NASA chief Bill Nelson.
The industrial partner will design, build, test and fly the demonstrator, and NASA will receive data on the configuration of the airframe and related technologies.
