Meta To Release Horizon OS For Third-Party VR Headsets
Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, announced the development of its own operating system, Horizon OS. This development is part of a larger Meta metaverse vision and marks a shift for the company from its previous focus on the Meta* Quest 3 headsets.
Meta announced its intention to open up its Horizon OS operating system to third parties. As part of this initiative, Lenovo and Asus will develop VR devices. Microsoft and Meta will release a limited edition of the existing Meta Quest 3 or newer version.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, the collaborative headset “will come with an Xbox controller and Game Pass, so you can instantly start playing on a huge [virtual] screen, no matter where you are.”
In addition to hardware, Meta plans to expand openness at the content level. The app store for VR headsets will be changed to make it easier to access experimental games from the App Lab section
