Astrohaus Unveils Freewrite Wordrunner Keyboard With Word Counter And Mechanical Timer
At the CES 2025 electronics show, Astrohaus presented a mechanical keyboard for writers – the Freewrite Wordrunner project.
The Freewrite Wordrunner keyboard features a compact, tenkeyless design, a cast aluminum chassis, backlit “high-quality tactile switches,” and multiple layers of sound insulation, making it suitable for use in public spaces without disturbing others. The Wordrunner stands out from other mechanical keyboards with its two electromechanical counters with rotating number drums. The eight-digit Wordometer continuously tracks the number of words typed from the moment you press the reset button.
The other counter, with four digits, functions as a timer for speed typing or productivity tracking.
To control media playback, the Wordrunner keyboard features a dedicated red joystick. It can be pressed or moved in four directions to skip tracks or adjust volume.
Astrohaus essentially offers a way to bypass separate writing apps and focus on the writing itself. “Writers use keyboards more than anyone else, but they’ve never had professional tools built specifically for them,” explains Astrohaus founder and CEO Adam Lieb.
The project opens for pre-order on Kickstarter in February, with the keyboard scheduled to ship by the end of 2025.
